A bit about me, Sarah Webster, Founder and Director of DogMog Limited.
I have always had an affinity with animals. Even as a child they seemed to be drawn to me, seemed to know that I understood them in a way others didn’t. I was quite a calm and quiet child, which I think animals appreciate in their humans. I could always be found reading books about horses and dogs for hours on end.
This natural connection with animals led to a career as a veterinary nurse. I started with a large clinic in Wellington who saw me through my diploma in veterinary nursing, followed by a short stint overseas while on my OE.
On returning to New Zealand I worked with a friend training animals for movies and helping out on her small farm. It wasn’t full time work and I needed some regular income. So I took a nurse’s position at a small clinic in Raumati on the Kapiti Coast. There I worked with a fantastic vet and stayed for a couple of years.
After all this time as a nurse I started becoming bored and needed more of a challenge or maybe just a change – I never saw myself being a vet, I couldn’t face the 5 years at Massey University. I did however want to earn some decent money for a change (vet nursing isn’t well paid) and decided to try my hand in the corporate world working for Telecom Mobile. There I got the money I needed, and the challenge. I learnt an incredible amount and met some great people.
I left Telecom a few years ago to raise our two children. My passion for animals has never left me. I had a new desire to work in the pet industry again, in a way that combined all my skills, and this led me to create my website DogMog.
At the time of writing, we have a small menagerie at home – Tokaji the crazy Viszla. Tom the cat from the SPCA, and Otto a fairly large re-homed axolotl. Our flock used to be bigger not so long ago, but we lost some members along the way. It’s only a matter of time before our family expands again – I’m thinking chickens next!
