If you are working to a budget then consider open source solutions.

The worlds largest CMS, Joomla (www.joomla.org) is free. It has over 3,000 extensions including a full e-commerce facility, blogs, galleries etc.

There are also hundreds of free templates. Commercially a Joomla site will cost you around $600-800 to set up through many web companies including my own, however this is possible to do by a home user with some web experience. Joomla is currently estimated by some people to power between 2% and 3% of the worlds websites.

Likewise the forums have thousands of people who will offer help and support. This is not a pitch for work. So as the owner of one of New Zealands largest Joomla site creators I am happy to give you some FREE advice at any time.

Actually I came across your site while wearing my other hat, as the manager of the New Zealand Companion Animal Register as I was googling comments on the National Dog Database.

This is a complete crack up. What is wrong with people these days?

Alas, my killer idea for K9H2O has passed:
http://www.dogslovewater.com/aboutproduct.php

Dr Dan is onto something, making his water "fruit flavoured"...we all know how much dogs just looooove fruit.

And, according to the website, this dog water is even better than enhanced water for humanoids. Wow, imgaine how fast Hussein Bolt would go on this stuff?

Incroyable!

Good luck with the New Site. I am sure it will be very popular ... especially with so many people thinking of the Pets as important parts of the family.

Hi Sarah.
I know a couple of guys who are more than capable of doing the work, but will need a PM.

My Idea: A local startup putting in PM and architecture services that allow commodity developers (from anywhere online) to code for a price. Not specific to any particular CMS like silverstripe or drupal.

Hi Glen,
Good point - I agree and perhaps I have gotten a bit caught up in the light at the end of the tunnel called 'the launch'.
Thanks for reminding me that there is much work to be done. A separate post on life after launch may be in order.
